Clinton To Campaign With Obama, Encourages Donors To Give

Hillary Clinton, yesterday (via TPM):

On a private conference call moments ago, Hillary urged her top fundraisers in no uncertain terms to throw their weight behind Barack Obama, and directly asked them in surprisingly candid terms to give or raise money to help her pay off her campaign's debt.

At the same time, in a move that took some participants on the call by surprise, she also clarified that she was not asking their help in paying off her personal loans to the campaign.

I never thought Clinton would ask others to retire the debt from the personal loans she made to her campaign - but it's good to hear Clinton make that clear. The pre-concession accusation that she wanted to stay in for money was absurd.

And next week, Clinton and Obama will hold a joint campaign event together. Don't know yet which location they'll choose - so far it hasn't been announced. Will the campaign hold the event somewhere they think the local coverage would be useful (Florida, perhaps?), or will they go somewhere safe?

Re: Clinton To Campaign With (2.00 / 5)

I am very heartened by this. I think the AP has some more info on it. Wooohoo. this will be great.

Beautiful! (none / 0)

I may send her some bucks yet.

As far as "playing safe", I think Obama has proved he ISN'T playing safe at all. Florida is as good a call as any.

Re: Clinton To Campaign (2.00 / 2)

"Interestingly, Hillary also suggested that she would soon be making public statements about the media coverage of the campaign, as well as the ways "women were discussed," saying that she would "be doing more on that as we go forward."

I love that directness, about campaign issues, her support of Obama, even the need for help to retire some of her vendor expenses.  More power to her.  I know she will play a huge roll in this campaign and I hope, and believe, in the upcoming administration.

Re: Clinton To Campaign With Obama, Encourages Don (1.66 / 3)

I usually think Ben Smith from Politico is a hack but he said it perfectly.

The ability of that duo -- with their odd couple narrative -- to command media, whether or not she's on the ticket, is going to be a serious asset.

Do you smell what Barack and Hillrod are cooking?

Playing it safe is for losers.

Re: Not Wanting Her Own Money Back (none / 0)

Thanks for drawing attention to this!  I only hope the MSM commentators who so gleefully attacked her for only staying in it to get her own loans back will finally admit they were wrong!  (Not that I expect that, of course, but can't blame a girl for hoping!)

Yeah, I guess we shouldn't hold our breath waiting to hear that!  Atlhough I'd settle for just Chris Matthews!  (And to follow your example, as my Dad always says: If frogs had wings, they wouldn't bump their asses on the ground--or something like that.  :-) )

Where is MYDD on the FISA fight? (none / 0)

You do realize what's going on right now, right?

I'd post a diary about it, but I already did one this morning on another issue.

Re: Where is MYDD on the FISA fight? (none / 0)

whom do you mean by "MyDD"? the site admins? the posters? the diarists? I only ask since it is pretty obvious you have not looked at the diaries list or searched comments, then you would know...

I see Dracomicron has done some work on it today.  I was referring to nothing being written on it yesterday when it was actually going on.

You should do it if you have the time.  You can post more than one diary a day.

I thought about the fact that I read nothing here on the topic, but I've just been getting the news elsewhere.

Once again, Hillary is proving to be the (2.00 / 3)

classy lady that we Hillary supporters always knew her to be. Just as I am coming to know Obama more and more as a nominee that I can enthusiastically endorse, I hope that some of the folks who engaged in a whole lot of Hillary bashing can come to realize that perhaps they were, to put it diplomatically, a bit misguided. When I disagreed with Obama, his surrogates, or his suppporters, I never lost sight of the fact that it was politics in motion. And politics, especially within the context of such an historic, compelling, and evenly matched race can drag us down in the gutter at times. Once I knew Hillary had lost, I never doubted for a moment that she would exit with class and pivot to embrace Obama's nomination.

Hillary will be a huge asset for Obama, and I'm glad the effort is underway

Unfortunately (2.00 / 2)

Once I knew Hillary had lost, I never doubted for a moment that she would exit with class and pivot to embrace Obama's nomination.

In the heat of battle, I did doubt it. Now I see I was wrong.

If I could apologize to her now, I would. I am gladdened and relieved to have her as a gladiator in this fight.

Thanks, linfar. Your diairies have always (none / 0)

touched me, even when I have disagreed with them. The passion and loyalty you bring to your work are something I have long admired. It is good to have the primary behind us, to see our party coalescing around a remarkable nominee. Your voice is a part of that. And like I've said before, if I were McCain, I would run and hide somewhere.

Re: Clinton To Campaign With Obama, Encourages Don (none / 0)

Hillary is going to campaign for Obama because she's a good "team player" and she give this party more than it deserves.

Unlike Hillary, i have no loyalty to the Democratic Party and the DNC.  Good luck with that "new" coalition.

What are you saying exactly?  I miss your point?

If you are a Conservative who wants to see us fail I can understand why this frustrates you. Otherwise, I don't get the animosity.

we KNOW already. you arent going to vote for him. i happen to think that is idiotic, but everyone's votes are their own. you could just make it your signature but you'd have nothing to put in any of your posts then...

thankfully polling has shown defecting hillary supporters are a tiny minority and a non issue.

Re: Clinton To Campaign With Obama, Encourages Don (none / 0)

Hillary teaming up with Barack!

Oh Man!  The Republican dream of a convention fight and a battered nominee emerging late this summer has be replace by the worst of all possible worlds for them.

Barack running with the support of the most powerful and well loved Democrats, even Hillary herself. Hillary's now in a position to realize all the things she's worked for beginning in '09 when we have the legislature and White House.

She is showing real leadership, the kind it takes to affect change.

Ralph Nader and others should take notice.  This is how you get things done.  You play the hand your dealt, bide your time, and make your move and the right moment.  You can piss and moan about what's wrong all you want, but you have to be pragmatic if you want REAL CHANGE.

I'm looking forward to Barack signing Hillary's Health Care Plan into law!

Wow- Hillary isn't really Satan after all... (none / 0)

I'm surprised she didn't rip his head off and feed from his live body.
LOL
I'm STILL shocked at how many people were willing to believe all the nasty stuff peddled around about the Clintons.  I guess that comes with power and success- equal parts hate.  Sad really.
Hillary Clinton is a class act.

They should do this in Georgia.
